A Profile of the Severn Motor Yacht Club

Located on the east bank of the River Severn, just South of Worcester, the Severn Motor Yacht Club has delightful surroundings. Our clubhouse and grounds have views out over the River with a backdrop of the Malvern Hills, yet are situated only 5 minutes from the M5 motorway. Bristol and Birmingham are just 45 minutes away.

Club members live all over the Midlands region and enjoy the combination of easy access and a secure site which boasts excellent moorings and a fully equipped clubhouse and bar. Worcester is an ideal base for exploring upstream to Stourport or downstream to Tewkesbury and Gloucester. Smaller vessels can navigate up the River Avon to Stratford. For those with salt in their veins, the Severn Estuary and Bristol Channel are a days cruise away. Club rallies and cruises regularly take members to Bristol, Ilfracombe, Swansea and Padstow, with some venturing to Ireland, the Scillies and even further afield.

In the clubhouse everyone gets a friendly welcome. Our facilities include a bar, restaurant, showers and extensive lounge areas. Food and drinks are available lunchtime and evenings from Wednesday through Sunday and our steward is usually on hand to look after members. Those with boats moored on the East bank benefit from an electric supply, water supply and lighting. Increasingly our pontoon development programme will mean standards come up to and beyond those found in the best marinas.

Alternative moorings are available on the West bank, which has more limited facilities and these are priced very competitively. In front of the clubhouse is Haynes Pier, our landing stage and visitors mooring where diesel fuel and water supplies are available.

Throughout the year there is a busy social and education programme running at SMYC. We are a recognised RYA Training Establishment and run RYA Day Skipper and Coastal Skipper Courses together with radio operator, first aid and Bristol Channel Navigation classes. Members tend to meet up on Saturday nights, which are Club nights, and there are special events running year round. Close liaison with clubs up and down the River Severn means rarely a week goes by without a social event taking place. At the SMYC these include regatta’s, pantomimes, quiz nights, chandlery auctions, discos and our Annual Dinner which takes place in November each year.

Membership is reasonably priced and available to both boating and social members. Family rates apply too with mooring opportunities restricted to members. If you are interested in joining the Severn Motor Yacht Club call one of the flag officers listed on this site, or alternatively email us.
