Dressing Overall

Location by boat:

On the east bank of the River Severn approx 2 miles South of Worcester. Visitors from other yacht clubs are asked to telephone Alan Bird, the Moorings Officer, on (01684) 592005 to find out where to moor.
Please avoid turning your vessel in the moorings.

Location by road:

On the west side of the A38, 100 yds south of the Worcester Ring Road and river crossing, between the BP garage and the roundabout. There is an access control and security system on the club access road. Visitors should get out of their cars and ring the buzzer for the Steward who will open the gate for them.

Getting around:

There is a Tesco supermarket and other shops about a fifteen minute walk away on the St Peter’s Estate. The Ketch pub and Homebase are about five minutes away along the A38, across the roundabout towards Worcester. Buses stop near to the BP garage at the top of the access road and run half hourly to and from Worcester. For timetable information telephone 0345 125436.

Facilities:

In the clubhouse everyone gets a friendly welcome. Our facilities include a bar, restaurant, showers and extensive lounge areas. Food and drinks are available lunchtime and evenings from Wednesday through Sunday and our steward is usually on hand to look after members and visitors.

Navigation:

The River Severn is tidal to Upper Lode Lock at Tewkesbury on spring tides. Above Tewkesbury the River is sedate except during winter floods when navigation is not recommended. Keep to the centre of the river although use the outside of the bends for the maximum depth of water. In the summer the river is busy with pleasure craft and pleasure steamers. Nicholson’s Guide to the Waterways is a useful book to have aboard and will help you get the best out of your trip upstream.

The delightful town of Upton upon Severn is about halfway between Tewkesbury and Worcester and has good moorings for visitors in the Marina on the East Bank about half a mile below the town or on the British Waterways visitors pontoon just north of the road bridge.

There are no visitors moorings north of Upton until you reach Worcester except for those visiting the SMYC as guests. At the club there is electricity, water and showers available together with a licensed bar and restaurant which serves food lunchtimes and evenings from Wednesday through Sunday. SMYC is a traditional club and gentlemen are expected to wear a blazer and tie on Saturday nights. At other times casual wear is the norm.
